GENERAL INFORMATION
Leather
is a natural fibre and thus can be adversely affected by water/moisture
and we would recommend extreme caution when considering a
bathroom or an area where dampness may occur. We would urge
anybody to seek advice when choosing leather tiles to ensure
that they are suitable for the environment in which they are
to be fitted.
Our leather tiles all come in batches and despite all efforts
to avoid any inconsistency, they may be subject to colour
and tonal variation from batch to batch, a single sample can
therefore never to be taken as an accurate indication of the
colour of any subsequent batches.
It is also important to note that exposing leather to direct
sunlight for prolonged periods of time exacerbate colour changes
in the tiles (as with most furniture & carpets, especially
wood).
We would also emphasise that the correct requirement of tiles
be ordered at the time of ordering, as we cannot guarantee
an exact colour match with subsequent orders. As well as colour
variation, some of our tiles may bear markings such as insect
bites, wrinkles and losing battles with barbed wire fences;
this is simply a guarantee of the real thing and NOT the result
of poor workmanship.
We recommend that up to 10% be added to each order to allow
for cutting and wastage
The leather tiles are treated with a type of "scotchguard"
during the leather process. This acts as an additional resistance
to accidental spillages. This treatment will wear off in time,
so if the tiles are to be used as a floor covering we would
suggest regular waxing to maintain the performance of the
tiles. It is recommended that all spillages be absorbed quickly
with a damp cloth
INSTALLATION PROCEDURES - the following information is a guideline
only
Unfortunately we cannot provide an installation service at
the moment. Should anybody be interested and have some experience
in fitting leather tiles and would like to be considered as
a recommended fitter please contact
the tannery direct via our enquiry
form.
We
suggest that the installer lay the tiles out on the floor
to be viewed by the designer or end user to allow for the
possibility that they may want some of the tiles repositioned
before gluing to the wall/floor. (We recommend this due to
the normal, desirable colour variations in our premium leathers)
IF REQUIRED: Prior to installation the wall/floor must be
repaired so that any holes and crevices are filled and all
protrusions, nails, screw heads and the like be below the
wall/floor level and patched.
Effective installation is completely dependent on a clean,
dust-free environment and we recommend that it be the last
product to be installed after all other jobs are completed.
It is recommended that the leather be allowed to acclimatise
in the room for a minimum of 4-5 days. This will allow the
leather fibres to relax and reduce the risk of shrinkage and
will also help to eliminate any possible damp allowing the
air to circulate around the tiles. If the tiles are to be
laid on a floor then we would suggest that the prospective
floor be levelled accordingly, possibly using a plywood substrate
(about 4.0mm thick).
ADHESIVE
It is suggested that a contact type adhesive or a may be suitable
for tile applications. This is available to purchase in most
diy/hardware stores.
Different adhesives may require a slightly different installation
procedure
SPECIFICATION
Due to the nature of our leather tiles, some variation in
thickness may occur. The dimensions of the tiles may therefore
be subject to minor inaccuracies. Although the tiles will
be split to a final levelled thickness the maximum tolerance
which may be experienced is 0.3mm.
TERMS OF TRADING
Our terms of trading are nett, ex works and we generally ask
